Hey guys,
Looking for some recommendations for basic webhosting and a .co.nz domain registration.

Hosting doesnt have to be based in NZ, but if its affordable then its a bonus because it means NZ support.

I looked at hostingdirect but ive heard very mixed opinions. Those who have no issues say they are great, but those who have had even minor issues seem to get very bad service

So can someone suggest other options? Opinions?

Mods please move this if its the wrong section, i didnt know where to put it so this seemed to be the most popular 'internet related' section.

I brought my domain from http://www.asiaregistry.com/ - Rates are very competitive

And host it through www.ediy.co.nz - They provide me with a content management system - As I don't have much in the way of html skills

They also geo locate the hosting - So if you surf from NZ you use the NZ hosted site & internation from the US based hosting - Meant to speed things along.

Cheers Shane

I use www.iserve.co.nz for .co.nz domain registrations. They offer cheap hosting as well (I don't use them because of our volume of course).

Anyone used 1stdomains.co.nz? $29NZD per year for .co.nz

Any reason why you use asiaregistry? its $41NZD per year and it varies based on the exchange rate. Thats more than local options?

Web 2U seems alright, for hosting + domain.

Wow. $20 a month for 20mb of disk space?! That seems crazily overpriced?

Yes I use them for a couple of domains and have had no problems; would recommend :)

They're operated by Net24 who seems to be a fairly solid hosting company based in Christchurch. (http://www.net24.co.nz/). I haven't used them for hosting personally though so I cannot speak for their services, although I have only heard good things. Could be worth checking out.

Yeah DH are pretty good and if you do a Google for Dreamhost coupons/codes you can get various discounts etc.
Or wait till an American holiday and you might get it for nothing (or close to) - I got a full years hosting for $15NZD because I signed up on some US holiday :)

I think dreamhost.com has the best value, and XPD is right, they usually do have holiday specials. Either way, $8.95 USD = 12.55 NZ Dollars. For unlimited disk usage and bandwidth its probably the best value.

Hmm, that is pretty tempting, even with the necessary extras it comes to about half of my current NZ hosting (5GB/100GB=$500+GST). Does anyone actually have experience of Dreamhost with a reasonably active NZ ecommerce site?

So far im considering domains4less.co.nz/1stdomains.co.nz for the domain name

And then web-2u for the hosting
http://web-2u.co.nz/index.php/hosting/plans.html
Total comes to just over ~$110 a year ish.

Going with dreamhost is nice and all, but its $150+ per year just for the hosting. I dont need unlimited bandwidth, but i suppose i could consider it.

Still after opinions and suggestions though, offshore hosting is still fine
