Is this legal to do?  Say for example if five houses in the same street paid a fith each of the monthly bill with one house hosting the connection and the other four houses running off wireless.

legal? yes

practical? not really.

who is responsible for security? what if you need to reboot the modem and it is in your neighbours house? what if you want to play a game and your neighbours are downloading pron causing your game to be lagtastic?
