We are having VERY SLOW connection speeds on our Telstra Cable 20gb plan.
Spoken to Telstra a number of times over the last week and even logged our speed test results with them, but only ever get "we are working on fixing it". I refuse to pay them all that money if I am getting dial up speeds. My girlfriend is on the 10gb plan and she is using a Wireless Router and is getting good speeds. Is anyone else finding Telstra slow?? Should we be getting such big fluctuations of speed.

I am considering getting a naked DSL line instead.  I do understand it will be slower than what I have now but it should be better value as you get more gigs. Can anyone reccommend anything?

Any help offered be great, thanks.

Here are some of our speed test results, please let me know if link does not work. :)

Start by running a speed test to Auckland. TelstraClear does not peer with the speed test provider in Wellington so speeds would be affected.

Also remember the speeds are on their network - anything that goes to another provider and you can't guarantee there isn't a problem on the other side...

For example this is what I am getting right now on my 25Mbps plan:

There are days it gets a lot closer to 25Mbps... Today is not one of those days.

Having said thart, this is what I am getting right now to Wellington:

It seems better than yours. Have you made sure there isn't any other PC connected, you are not running any downloads at the time of the test, and your router is performing correctly?

Those are not the worst we did not save the worst. We had ones of 0.07 download and 0.03 upload against Napier, as Telstra told us.

that's great do you think that we might have been told by telstra the wrong servers to test against? and that's the reason we have been getting some very strange readings?

As I said, speeds to any server outside your ISP are dependent on many factors. The 10Mbps speed is not possible to anything outside, even less to overseas. The 8.73 up/ 2 down is quite a good speed...

Called Telstra today and they confirmed there was an issue which may have affected the speeds in my area. The issue has been resolved and as of lunch time today my speeds have gone back to the way they were. It is constant, performing much better like cable should. Even looking at moving to the 50gig plan. Thank you for your feedback and advice. This is a great site.
