Hey Guys I'm from Invercargill and have been with Woosh Wireless for past 4 years, I know it's a long time and while I have found them to be pretty slow I don't really do bugger all Online Gaming and such but now I have a PS3 and want to do some Online Gaming but for the past few weeks Download Speed has been totally awful for me...

I have a Booster Antenna sitting on my Window Sill and a few weeks ago I was getting download speeds I found acceptable in the range of 130kb/sec to 180kb/sec but now the best I can get is 55kb/sec which is really crap! And tonight I ran speedtest to St Louis in US and only came up with 36kb/sec downstream result...

Is there anyone here from Woosh that know what might be going on? I've only used 67% of my data cap so far so thats not an issue, Has Woosh had an influx of new customers making congestion a lot worse or something? I don't feel like calling them again as everytime I call them they just tell me to do things like restart the modem which I already did and made no difference, or they tell me to move the Antenna all over the window but how come I was getting a great signal for months then it goes to crud all of a sudden sitting in the same place?

Man sometimes I ask myself why I am with such a crappy Broadband ISP such as woosh and paying $55 a month for Broadband that at times as no better than Dialup... Yell

also I know Wireless would be a bad idea for even considering online gaming, but I don't know if I wanna spend $69 on a Naked DSL a month, Snap would seem like the best option if I did plan on changing however.

Wireless is generally worse for latency sensitive things like gaming.

Snap are a good choice if you're in the South Island.

Have they recently had a promotion there encouraging new customers?

Essentially every one of their cellsites has its own capacity and other factors such as antenna position aside there may be a limitation if there are too many customers sharing access to the same tower.

I used to be on Woosh a number of years ago and was getting good speeds for some time before I had similar experience to you with marked degradation in speeds. I knew someone at Woosh and called them - they looked at the statistics for the tower to which I normally connected and told me that there was a big increase in the number of concurrent connections/local customers - when they also told me that my tower was 41st in terms of the priority for upgrade I decided I couldn't tolerate the speeds any longer and changed ISP.

Hi drajk, not that I know of but I see a neighbour who is with Woosh now also as I see the booster antenna on their window so maybe the customer numbers in Invercargill has increased a fair bit lately.

I called them yesterday and the guy I was talking to said connection looked fine from their end, asked me to do a speed test to christchurch which only produced a crappy 0.85 result.

I've been experimenting with speed tests to US servers I get anywhere between 0.37 - 0.60  on the US ones, I told the guy about a month ago I was  getting download speeds over 200kb/sec quite often, He just says he has never known Wireless to be that good, I mean come on stop using excuses Woosh you know damn well the problem is with your towers.

I seriously give up with these guys, Too unprofessional...

Hi Wildfire, I had the same issue before. Did you call or did you email your complain? When you call, you always get to the 1st level support and your problem will most likely end there. However, if you email them or log a support ticket from your woosh login, you will get to 2nd level support or someone who is more experienced. Just give them some speed test at different times of the day and some traceroute result. If there is congestion issue with the site, and there are many customers complaining, then they will put more capacity on the site. Good luck.

Since getting woosh last week, I have to say, I wonder if they shape the heck out of their services. Because how can I watch youtube in a fast and easy way as well as have a clear conversation over voip, but I cant get download speeds that are over 50 kb/s. I wonder if it is all down to shaping for bandwidth preservation.

Yeah you're probably right Paul, cancelled my account today cause I've had enough of the crap download speeds.

Support Guy I was talking to was a nice enough guy but telling me 60kb/sec download speeds are fine made for a good laugh after I hung up.

Being on hold for what I timed to be 34 mins was also laughable. Oh well gone onto ADSL2+ now so I can be much happier. :)

I was pretty impressed with Orcon. We used to get 1.2-1.4 megs per second depending on where it was coming from. Getting ubuntu in 15 mins from an aussie mirror was pretty cool.

Decided to go with Telecom, I was considering Slingshot until read about some of the Problems people were experiencing with them, Getting 16mb/sec on Speedtest to Christchurch at times. :)

That is quite an improvement from a woeful 81 - 99kb/sec I was getting on Woosh to Christchurch lol.............
