At my Mum's retirement apartments (post way of saying resthome) there is no wireless access and they have recently provided a computer but the password is controlled by someone who is never around.

I'd like to suggest they get a wireless network where each resident would get a password so that visitors can use their devices to show them online content (photos, fatso etc). The resident could then be charged for what is used.

The area that the WIFI would cover is much greater than a coffee shop so hardware is an issue. Would they need a repeater?

And what software would be best for measuring usage?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You could suggest either www.tomizone.com or www.zenbu.net.nz... Both offer pre-configured wireless routers that work like a cafe hotspot. You can print your own access codes for free access and visitors can buy timed access for example - so they actually pay what they use.
