Heya all,

just subscribed as i stumbled over this forum on my search (yet again...) on what's out there in the market of high speed connections.

As I was browsing through a few threads, I thought to check who else is on 'wired country' connection, and who's had a lot of dropped connections and what's worse, connection being down for 2-3 hours at the time, over the last week or so.

I was told by my Ihug Sales guy (subscribed with them when they offered special deals July last year), that since Kompass ISP bought 'wired country' ISP RadioNet, the service has gone downhill fast because Kompass is aggregating up to 200 users per port instead of the 10-20 originally allocated while RadioNet was running things. Well on checking Kompass, they do sell a lot of phone services, and I wondered if anyone is using their wried country AND phone services, as thius might also explain plain data users like myself being booted so often and for such long times...

Just for your info, i'm on 2Mbit connection with 50Gig data cap and run a little server off the that connection too... naturally, it's a Mac, hehe...

Hope to get some feedback here :)

Yeah, it was up and down end of last week. No info from WC/Compass though.

Anyway, Wired Country is not the same as Radionet, so I'm curious as to what your Ihug guy actually meant.

Have you tried asking Compass for assistance?

Aaahhhh,

I am not the only one affected then. I spoke toa tech support guy who then put me through to one of their actual network engineers, and he told me that they were doing some maintenance on routers that had fallen over... I told him what i was told by my ihug sales guy on friday afternoon, and he just quietly suggested that any concerns about overloading the ports on their routers on Skytower may best me made known to their upper management. hehehe, well, in plain english, he said yes, we know we are overloading, but we arer told to that by the boss!

So, I am likely to write to Kompass and simply tell them what I think and that if I have ANY problems like that again, I will be going through the hassle of geting setup with software that will monitor my connection uptime (maybe IPcop or something similar). ONce I have some data that is somewhat reliable, I will distribute that to whoever shows the slightest interest! Maybe someone in the media will take it up? I don't know, but I am sick of having to chase around for alternatives every 3 months.

Well, that's pretty crap. From what I heard, just about everyone on WC had service interruptions, including Russell Brown at Public Address .

I agree with you that it shouldn't have to be this difficult getting a reliable service, but I would advise you to seek an amicable resolution first. Sometimes it works and as the hippies would say, it's good for your karma. Wink

ooops, sorry for the confusion between radionet and wired country, maybe that's because compass is now the owner of both those services... or I had a bad day, hehe..

Hmm that almost borders on defamation. :)

What it sounds like he is meaning in fact is that the number of users per basestation has increased by a factor of 10....think about that for awhile. That would mean Compass has signed 900% more customer in the 5 months they have had Wired Country than Wired Country and its ISP resellers did in 3 years.
