Background Info
I'm moving out of home and into my own apartment in Auckland City and will be in a building which only have internet options at around $10 per week for 1000mb which all of you know is a bloody rip off and laughable! I'm quite sure there is no way to get Naked DSL to my room even though it does have phone lines going to it.

Current known options
-Woosh Wireless ($34.95 for 10gb a month)
-The crappy t-stick options (these are too expensive for me)

Questions
Does anybody have experience with Woosh Wireless and if so could you let me know about the speeds/drops of their plan?

Will gaming via Xbox Live be utterly crap due to the latency of wireless internet (this is quite a big thing for me since it's a big hobby)?

How strong do you think the signal would be around Whitaker Place in Auckland City?

Is there any other options I can go with to get the normal wired broadband plans to my room?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide me with. (:

Have you tried speaking to the landlord or whatever and asking about getting fixed line broadband?

I asked them about it a while ago, when I was just looking at the apartment.
Maybe now that I've actually secured my apartment and such they'll be more informative about the options I have for getting a Naked DSL plan ran to my room.
Will ask them again if it's an option.

Does this mean if there is a phone line to the room (which there is because  you can rent the phone service through the building, all though I don't want to do this because I've no need for an actual phone line) I can get Naked DSL?

Does the building own the phone lines to the room or is it owned by the actual phone company (can't remember their name).

I think the internal phone lines would be owned by the people who own the building?

What about 2degrees mobile broadband if you cant get naked dsl? 2degrees is really really good in terms of data pricing. I've never relied on them for access before but will be using it in CHCH in jan.

$50 for 3gb is a bit to expensive for me!
Plus I'm too used to the 20-30gb plans, I think 10gb would be the smallest I could use.

I'm starting to think it may be easier to pay $30 for a phone line with them and then get a normal plan like Snap Broadband C which is $49.95 a month...totaling $80 for 20gb fs/fs wired broadband.

This seems to be the best idea so far - once you have done this, then you'll know whether or not it's viable, and of not, then start looking at alternatives like wireless.

Even check with some of the other tennants - see what they use...

Yes Vodafone ndsl is pretty good but to get 30GB @ $65 you need to be on a postpaid plan with their mobile phone service or homephone wireless service Otherwise its $95 for the 30GB.

Have a look to see if Bosco is available in your apartment. They have 512kbps unmetered internet.
Service is not fantastic, but it generally works.

Have just been told that even with their phone line service I can't connect any outer internet plan.

I think it's time to look for a new place to stay.
