Hi,

We're due to be migrated to a new cabinet that is roughly 700m away from our house on the 14/01/2011. I have been doing speedtests and checking my router daily to see if any changes have occured.  Until today, nothing had happened I was still connecting at just short of 4mpbs.  As of today however, the line attenuation has increased to 52db and our connected speed has dropped by about 1.3mbps.  I'm on a telecom wholesale contract I believe through snap as they're not LLU.

Is this change in connection status likely due to the cabinet being switched on and interference from the cables as it runs in to the exchange?  We haven't been switched across yet, but I was thinking that we would be.   Nothing has physically changed in the property and I have restarted, turn off the router several times to make sure.  Any other suggestions?

this happened to me in the couple of weeks before switch over.

I guess they are rerouting your path to the exchange temporarily while they connect to the new cabinet.

Are you sure Snap will be pro active and switch you straight to the cabinet (without requesting / bringing it to their attention)?

I wouldent be surprised if the cabinet is already active and you are still routed directly to the exchange with the cabinet causing interference. Happened to me but a month ago.

My area recently got cabinetised and the work was completed/ cabinet operational before the date listed on the telecom site.

When my line quality degraded the cabinet was already active. My bet is its active and you are still on the exchange.

Having never been through cabinetisation, I'm not sure.  I will drop them a line and see if they know anything.  The Chorus notices still state that is it due to happen today and that it currently hasn't been migrated, but then the spreadsheet hasn't been updated since last friday.  The cabinet is in place, as I saw it the other day.

Hopefully it is active as that would be awesome!

Yep you should drop them a line. Better to get the process underway rather then wait for them.

If its anything like when it happened to me,
They will proberbly make you go through the troubleshooting steps, and supply them with speed tests, line data info etc.

Then they will find/confirm its the cabinet causing the interference and move you over.
(thats what happened with me anyway)

To give you something to look forward to - my old line rate was about 6mbs.
Cabinet got installed and my line dropped to about 3mbps.
Got changed over to the cabinet and sync at around 22mbps!

Um, your ISP does not request wholesale connections to be connected to a cabinet or not -- they simply see an update on the port id once completed if they look it up for any reason. Attenuation is not caused by interferance but by distance and line resistance, not sure why its gone up but will get better once cabinetised. Maybe they did have to reroute something. If it was LLU then there might be some options for the ISP to keep the LLU to the exchange or not, but in this case its going to be cabinetised and become a shorter loop with better signal.

Time to find a new industry!

That is fine, as I said I've never been through the process so it was easy just to ask the question.  The attenuation had increased from 46 to 55db though, so I'm thinking that perhaps they had to re-route my connection for a while.  Anyway it doesn't matter, the cabinet was due to be operational on Friday and it was!  Went to work in the morning with a piece of string for a connection, came home and found a full blown ADSL2+ connection syncing at 18mbps, with real life downlods of upto 1.6MB/s.  Awesome.
