Hi

I am trying to find some information on why a very few emails sent from my NZ clients to me are getting bounced back.

I have a feeling it has something to do with my offshore DNS services with afraid.org.
I also use Google Apps for all my services including email and web hosting.

Has anyone had any experience with the services from afraid.org coupled with google apps email?

Also is it wise to use overseas hosting services?
I am thinking about bringing it back to Maxnet, but the Dynamic DNS IP update service is quite valuable to me.

The domain this relates to is q1.co.nz

Thanks

What error does the bounce message contain? This will help you figure out what exactly is going on.

There should be no issue with using an off shore DNS provider.

// OT Question if you don't mind, but how do you use Google Apps for Web Hosting? I've been trying to figure this out (well I was a year ago) for a website I manage. It uses Google Apps for Email but I couldn't figure out how to host it with Google Sites or similar? //

Are you hosting your servers on dynamic IP addresses?

Nope, the only thing I need dynamic IP addresses for is an independant terminal server. All the rest is hosted by Google via Gmail, Sites, Docs etc.

Nate: I wish I could but I was made aware of the problem by potential clients who were trying to contact me via email, and when that didn't work they rang. So I don't know who they are exactly.I have only had random people complain and not my normal everyday clients which is wierd.

kingjj: Use Google Sites, and point your domain to use Google servers via a CNAME record.

Google have some info on what you need to do to get it running.

One thing I have noticed is that very rarely while at clients computers/premises, I will need to log on to my secure page via q1.co.nz, and it will take 2 or 3 goes at entering q1.co.nz before the web site comes up.

Once I have successfully connected , I never have a problem at that premises again.

mx records seem fine pointing to googles mail servers:
mx:q1.co.nz mx

Pref Hostname IP Address TTL
10 aspmx.l.google.com 74.125.45.27 60 min SMTP Test Blacklist Check
20 alt1.aspmx.l.google.com 74.125.113.27 60 min SMTP Test Blacklist Check
20 alt2.aspmx.l.google.com 74.125.79.27 60 min SMTP Test Blacklist Check
30 aspmx2.googlemail.com 74.125.43.27 60 min SMTP Test Blacklist Check
30 aspmx3.googlemail.com 72.14.213.27 60 min SMTP Test Blacklist Check

If mail is bouncing it'll be some strange spam detection system and you may need help from your outsourced provider(google) to sort it out if you don't have access to their logs regarding your domain.

You could trfy running you own mail server for a bit to debug the issues though, there's not much to them.
