Hi There,

My father-in-law has recently moved to Cambridge (just outside Hamilton) and is looking for an ISP. Can anyone recommend one in that area. Telecom have him on a waiting list, which is quite unbelievable, but he'd rather get connected ASAP. Some lot called SkyNet (http://www.skynetnz.com) have appeared on the horizon but I know nothing of them and their website has a real amateur feel about it.

By the sounds of it, if Telecom has put him on a waiting list, then most if not all ISPs that provide the fixed line ADSL service would be on the same boat, in which case his only option would be to look at a wireless/satellite provider such as Skynet.

Vodafone, Orcon and Farmside all provide wireless broadband services, so worth giving them a call to find out more.

There are a few different providers but they would all be the same case, putting your father in law on waiting list if he was to sign up with them because they all effectively use the same Telecom equipment at the exchange for service.

Get in contact with that skynet - they have been around for ages now and I havent heard anything bad about them. I think the owner made a few comments about a year ago that described some of his network - such as he has 10mbits of international capacity - a reasonably good amount for a small wisp.

There is LLU gear in cambridge I think, check with Orcon, Vodafone, Slinshot and Compass as they may be able to offer you ADSL over their own gear in the exchange (rather than over Telecom wholesales gear in the exchange which sounds maxed out).
