As it looks like Im moving to Stanmore Bay (north of Auckland for you non-jafa's Tongue out), Im interested in knowing what broadband is like there, particularly Orcon. (With Orcon now, easier to stay with them)

So if any locals up that way could let me know their experiences with b/band there, it would be appreciated so I dont get any "nasty" surprises Wink

TIA

Are you on Orcon's ULL plan? Be prepared for worse service + cost more if they don't have their ULL gear in where you're moving to!

IIRC Stanmore Bay had their cabinets upgraded to adsl2+ recently, any provider should be able to provide you with adsl2+ via Telecom Wholesale's gear.

I may be too late, but if you want ANY broadband soon then don't move to Stanmore Bay! Unfortunately I did make the move 3 weeks ago, after doing everything I could to check that I could ADSL2 at the address, signing up with Telecom and receiving my router etc. I plug it in at the new house and have no joy, 10 mins later on the phone to help and I'm told there are no available ports at the exchange. I'm on a waiting list that could be for a month or a year!!

This is a bit of a problem as I work from home and have to have the internet to operate my business. Nice one Telecom. Why can't Telecom tell you in advance if this is going to be an issue? They must know the exchanges that have an issue with lack of ports, so why don't Telecom Wholesale provide that list to Xtra so when you ring up to check if you can get internet at the address the issue can be highlighted? It's a bit late after I've signed a lease and moved into a new place to be told sorry! The truth is I wouldn't have moved here if I new this in advance, but unless you are some well connected IT person you have zero way of finding out if this is going to be an issue until it?s too late.

I would be very interested to find out if you have run into the same issue? I think they told me I'm 3rd in the queue waiting for an available port. This is a major residential area, I could understand it if it was a bit rural. Its all well and good spending billions rolling out UFB, but how about spending something upgrading the local exchange so I, and obviously others in the area, can get any sort of broadband.
