I'm trying to help a friend temporarily change his username+password on a DSL-302G modem (supplied by Xtra).

It almost appears (from what he's told me over the phone) that when he tries to swap to another username+password (for another ISP), it reverts back to <username>@xtra.co.nz - ie it appears the modem is hard-wired to only connect to xtra.
Is this correct? If so, are there any work arounds?

If I was physically in front of the modem I'd experiment with it myself, but I was hoping somebody here might be able to point me in the right direction. I tried getting him to go into the advanced settings section of the modem, but there didn't appear to be anywhere in there to change the username and password.

Thanks for your help.

Nigel.

A BIG thankyou from me - I spent nearly an hour tonight (trying to remember what the screens looked like), so this info will be very valuable!

i'm using the same modem on my orcon connection - modem originally supplied by xtra.  i think the firmware is xtra branded but you're not restricted to only using that isp. i did have problems however when i was still with xtra when i tried to change my password.  haven't tried since though now that i'm on orcon and have only been on for a wee while haven't got round to changing that password yet either.

The original problem I had was that my friend was trying to change the username and password from the "Basic" mode - where Xtra have set up a screen that the user just had to insert "username" instead of "username.xadsl.xtra.co.nz" - they add the extra bit on the end automatically for you.

Once I could see that there is the option to enter the information completely - when in advanced mode - all our problems went away.
