I'm guessing it wont be cheap though.

Also it seems that they will get access to Telecom's ADSL2 network as well - why invest in your own equipment if you can just leach off Telecom's.

Most incumbents around the world where ULL is in place actually want other ISP's to resell their services rather than deploy their own network. We don't know what Telecom's line charges will be for ULL but say they're around the $10 per month - would you prefer to be getting $10 per month for a line or $28 bundled with an ADSL service that is potentially only costing you another $10 per month to provide? That extra $8 profit is a lot more than what you're getting out of a $10 line rental.

Fast speeds on ADSL 1 is crap.... i can only just get 2mbps, so any faster speeds will have no impact on my experience whatsoever.

When will they realise that most people want more cap, not faster speed. (on adsl1 anyway)

sbiddle's right... in that sense, improved wholesale terms and unbundling could actually cement Telecom's dominant position on the last mile, and prevent further investment.

Im worried about that scenario too.
I think nothing short of total unbundling of the local loop will have any major effect on the ability of competitors to enter the market.
