I can not get access to broadband, even though they have access to it 4 mins down the road and telecom has no plans to extend out an exchange this way any time soon they say.

I am considering getting wireless but a little cautious with the high set up and monthly costs.  I play alot of internet gaming in particular World of Warcraft.  During week nights and not much taking place in the game i can play on dial up with little annoyance, however during busy periods and raiding in game i just can not play and have to go to friends to use their broadband connection.

Would wireless be any good?  I hear that wireless had bad latency, but considering all i have is dial up as the other option I just want to know if its bearable?  I plan to raid alot on line with World of warcraft and use Ventrillo at the same time, would hate to spend all that up front to find out its not going to any good for my uses.

Any advice would be much appreciated

Thanks

I don't know exactly where you are situated or how close you are to a cbd etc... but if you can get a wifi signal using this method I highly recommend it (hell you might even get free internet?), I can access a telecom hotspot from 3.9kms away although I don't use it due to all the trees in the way making it patchy everyso often :/

I'm situated outside of Hamilton about 10mins away, and outside coverage for that.  So far the options for wireless are xtra and Inspire extend I have found.  Wired country I thought would be good but again I'm outside coverage for them :(

Does anyone else know ANYTHING about SkyNet.. they used to be a small Hamilton only ISP But i think have been bought out by Quicknet or something... but I just spoke to my contact today who had been talking with the company under that name today... so yea.. little confused

Checked out my options and pretty much BCL extend is what I can find on offer.

www.bclnz.com to check coverage and providers

Looks like I can get good coverage in my area, plus apparently the wireless should work in ok using World of Warcraft and Ventrillo.

Have not been able to find out anything regarding Skynet.

SLA is 40ms one way, 90% < 100 ms. will be OK for gaming but not great (fps)...should be fine for WoW.

Where exactly are you? Some of the Wired Country coverage stuff on not online from memory.
