Orcon extends NGN with Juniper
Orcon today announced the purchase of 3 M-series Juniper Routers, increasing the size of their Juniper-powered network to make it one of the largest in the country.
Orcon is currently the third largest wholesaler of internet services in New Zealand. The purchase of Juniper M-series routers significantly increases their wholesale capacity. "This purchase substantially extends the reach and capabilities of our existing Juniper-powered IP/MPLS network - enabling feature-rich, application-centric network services with ability to enforce strict quality of service for future provision of time and latency-sensitive traffic such as voice and video." said Scott Bartlett, General Manager Operations and Regulatory Affairs.
This purchase follows Orcon's announcement in June that it intends to make a significant investment in deploying an open access wholesale next generation network in the new unbundled telecommunications environment. "Juniper Network routers provide us with a robust and reliable platform on which to build our next generation wholesale network" continued Bartlett.
The equipment purchase is through global Juniper channel partner Siemens Communications. Siemens Communications New Zealand will be supplying operational support and maintenance as part of the purchase. Siemens will also be supplying their hiD range of Gigabit Ethernet edge and access switches as part of the network deployment.
Orcon has sustained a high level of growth over the past 3 years to become NZ's 4th largest ISP. Previously known as a provider of wholesale internet and business connections, Orcon has become a household name in New Zealand.
