We have a 2 meg orcon dsl here.

Every morning this week so far I have had to powercycle the supplied dynalink router to get the connection working again, the router has just been reporting no route to host on a traceroute, its also done it twice during the day.

Has anyone else been having problems with their "always on" connection? We rely on this for incoming calls now, and faults like this are not acceptable.

Its just done it again. I was so annoyed at having to go downstairs in the cold that I got out some of my old x-10 gear so I can reset the router from upstairs.

I get them now and then, usually after Orcons helpdesk are closed.

Quite annoying at times but aren't too common.

richms: You shouldn't be relying on your DSL for important services!

Having said that, what sort of router do you have? It should notice the dropouts (LCP keepalives should reset the line) and keep trying to reconnect.

I just had a problem with my Netscreen 5GT, finally a firmware patch has been released that fixes the problem it had (same thing, not noticing PPP session dying) so maybe there's a patch for your router that fixes it?

Audiophiles are such twits! They buy such pointless stuff: Gold plated cables, $2000 power cords. Idiots.

Its the little dynalink adsl2+ that they supplied with the connection. So far its been totally stable, but if PPP is dropping and its not noticing then its clearly a fault.

Flatmate has it loggingping times to his hosted server so we can get better details about when its going down, but sofar its been ok today. When hes back in the country hes gonna give them a call as its his connection, and since they supplied the router its their problem either way.

Hi All

I also had a similar issue with my Linksys WAG54G v2 - I installed the new GPL Firmware (1.02.04-NZ) and it seems to have resolved this issue. If you need a complied version of the firmware feel free to contact me.

Nick

Praise the GeekOverLords!

I'm not going mad!!! I thought this was just me...

I just put a new SMC router in becaue of this issue.

Has anyone else noticed that service quality has gone down recently? Must be adding customers faster than capacity.

That 0x dialling issue on local calls is also another problem! We got a big unexpected bill for local calls that we weren't very happy about... in fairness I rang up accounts and they've put it under dispurte to the point where I haven't seen a bill for any services turn up on our credit card so far.

I wish they would make up their minds thou, if they do charge me then I'm putting it back on Telecom to sort out as it was their caller ID system that caused the problem in the first place.

Thou I would like to know why Telecom is passing local call numbers to my toll provider... isn't the a privacy breach appart from anything else?

Cheers Don - also on Orcon....

Telecom probably reroutes the call to them when you dial 0<areacode> localnumber...
Thus why they are charging - it does have a tiny bit on their website about it.

Yes, but Telecom shouldn't be doing that at all.

Its been that way ever since the days of clear getting NCA. Ihug dont charge for the local calls, when I was on homeline economy (ahh remember the good days of not having flatrate local calls forced upon you) I would do that for the few local calls I made to get them for free..

A long time back I recall b**tching to telecom because there call diversion instructions said to dial 181161 then the area code and then the number, which I did, and ended up with about $30 of local call charges from clear on the bill. Ended up not paying it and cant recall how being that it was about 10 years ago that it happened. Telecom have changed the instructions now I believe.
