The fastest server I've ever found is cachefly.com
When my internet was good, I was amazed to get download speeds of 1.5Mb/s. But now I get less than half that. Previously, I hadn't thought that possible on my broadband connection.

I'm wondering if those of you on broadband can try one of these tests and let me know what speeds you are getting? I still suspect my current speed is very below average. Mention your ISP too please.

1.5Mb/s is pretty crap to be honest. From decently cached (akamai/etc) sites I can do ~13-14Mb/s.

tried both the 10Mb one maxed out at 1.5 Mb and the 100mb i got 1.8 Mb. im on Snap but i also use internet download manager

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Mine maxed out at 1.2MB/s on both which is pretty good for a 15Mbps download speed fibre connection.
If my maths is correct the fastest I could get on our 15Mbps download speed connection is 1.875MB/s, in theory.

Yes it seems people are getting confused. 2MB/s = 16Mb/s (multiply by 8)

Slow here, it tops out at 1.2MB/s, whereas I can get 2MB/s from Akamai.

Yes, I'm sorry, I should have said 1.5MB/s in my original post, but for some reason I lack the ability to edit it now.

@Vexxxboy Why are your speeds on Snap so good while mine are so bad? My downloads will peak at about 400KB/s before dropping to about an average of 100KB :(

@Noodles, how can I measure speed from an Akamai server? I'm on Snap so Facebook and YouTube use it, but I'm not sure how to measure the speed?

That's 212Mb/s if my brain is working right.

Ok ok I'm just being a pratt, that's obviously not broadband.

I find I can always max out our home ADSL line using the DownThemAll extension for Firefox. If you don't use it to download big files, you should!

The Cachefly server appears to be in Aussie so speeds will be constrained by what your ISP offers.

The Akamai CDN on the other hand is in NZ so speeds will be fast, on my TCL cable connection I'm virtually guaranteed of 15Mbps 24/7.
