Hi people:

I am a Snap Naked DSL customer and my DSL line has always been pretty good, having lived just about 100 meters from the cabinet.  I also recalled that I always had interleaving switched OFF on my line, and whilst performing a speedtest to Snap's CHC Server on speedtest.net.nz, I always get about < 30ms latency (usually around 23-25 ms).  However, I noticed that "recently", my latency has almost doubled to close to 50 ms.  I noticed too, that my uplink sync has gone from a usual, constant 969 kbps to about 1240 kbps, and that increase in uplink sync seem to correspond with my cabinet being upgraded to VDSL2+ capable in April/May this year.  I wondered whether would interleaving been turned on with the card upgrade?  I rang Snap tech support yesterday and they said my line is still showing as interleaving off, but they are hot sure why my latency would have doubled in that time.

Attached is the link stats from my modem - I am using a TP-Link TD-W8960N.

From the stats I can't decipher whether interleaving is off or on - the Line Coding says it is ON, but I am not sure if that is interleaving.  I am just wondering any of you know anything about how to decipher the DSL stats from my modem?

Thanks.

p/s: I am quite happy sync my sync up rates and speeds, just that I am puzzled as to why my latency has suddenly doubled.

Hi, interleaving depth is 1 so yes its on, line coding trellis as opposed to fast also indicates that. Other than that you stats look fine.

Give Snap a ring and ask it to be turned off, seems a common issue that interleaving has been tripped back on after card upgrades.

Thanks Cyril for your reply.

I just rang Snap and they confirmed that interleaving was indeed off on my port - so I asked them to do a port reset.  I still came up as interleaving off after the port reset, but as I am not home now I can't check what my modem is reporting.

But it is interesting that Snap is reporting interleaving is off in the first place...

Snap moved all their customers to using the newer (generally better) EUBA Telecom Wholesale service.

Interleaving depth of 1 should mean off

Interleave Depth defines the number of bits (or bytes) used in each block of data. ADSL supports a various levels of interleaving, the depth of which can range from 1 (no interleaving) to 64.

Can you post some tracert's eg:

windows key + r > cmd > tracert www.snap.net.nz

Hi Ragnor:

Thanks for your reply.

That's what I thought about Snap having moved to EUBA, after talking to some mates about it.

It is also good to hear/confirm that interleaving depth of 1 mean off.

And finally, here is my traceroute to www.snap.net.nz:

C:\Temp>tracert www.snap.net.nz
