Hey Team

Bit of a random suggestion but a good friend of mine suggested coming on here for your guy’s wealth of knowledge

We are running an online live stream show through Livestream.com every second Thursday at Auckland Ssangyong in Penrose

There service providers are Telecom which uploads at around 700Kbps

We are struggling to get a really good quality feed from Telecom and have rung around Vodafone, Telstra etc to pretty much get the same response of accepting no liability or promising anything until we install a line and try there service provider.

Telecom is useless and can’t help so it’s a very frustrating thing as we have this great show for our passion but the feed is really letting us down because we are live we cant pre record in a good definition and play back – all the feeds into Livestream look great but when it comes through the upload speed lets us down.

What I was wanting to know is would anyone out there know a service provider in The central Auckland or Penrose region that gets a good upload rate 1700+ ?

Any help or time is greatly appreciated

You would need more than an ADSL2+ connection to achieve an upload above that level. Have you looked at the possibility of VDSL or Fibre? Alternatively you could try Wireless but the lag may be to high. What is your current plan/connection stats?

You're asking for commercial level service, which will require HSNS or HSNS Lite (high speed on copper or fibre). ADSL isn't really a suitable option.

This does of course mean you need to pay the relevant rates, it's a case of 'get what you pay for' i'm afraid.

The added problem is that anything which is Layer 3 ex Telecom depends very much on the paid-for circuits between Telecom and the rest of the world, you would be better off using a Layer 3 (IP) provider who is willing to peer at the free peering exchanges, you'll reach a greater number of people with better performance.

Oh and HSNS services delivered over Copper aren't speed-garunteed until a feasibility is done on the address, it depends on distance from the phone exchange and quality of the twisted pair.

You could consider something Wireless, perhaps Araneo, which would be good for ~5Mbit solid on unlicensed spectrum (relatively cost efficient) subject to local RF conditions and visibility to one of their transmission sites.

Of course a better upstream is always welcome when it comes to online video broadcasting, however this is not the only parameter to consider.

Regarding the quality of the video stream itself:

are you using their premium or free service?
do you encode in h264 or VP6? if h264 do you use Adobe Media Encoder or directly Procaster?
what profile are you using for streaming?

Have you tried asking the dealership if you can use their connection? Most of the dealerships I know of have a fibre internet connection.
