So, with the ufb network being built right now, are they going to turn on individual streets as they do them or what?

and when are ISP's going to release plans for the network?

Ultra Fast Broadband ltd, the company doing the waikato and wider region, said widespread availability is likely to begin march next year in terms of ISP plans. No idea about chorus.

RLY. He seems to feel that a BB connection via a UFB feed will mean new special plans. Thats not how I see it.

RLY. He seems to feel that a BB connection via a UFB feed will mean new special plans. Thats not how I see it.

why not? that's how every other country does it. BT Infinity, U-Verse, FiOs, etc etc

Furthermore, Telstraclear has different plans for the cable broadband compared to DSL do they not?

Well, every ISP has different plans. TCL will have different costs for their own network vs a wholesale DSL product.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all in favour of new, good plans, but I don't see how a UFB connection will cause new plans to come into effect. If anything, they would theoretically cost more as there is a new asset infrastructure added into the mix. That being the case, if plan costs were similar or the same as that ISP's offerings, that would be a good deal. It also depends how fast the UFB was compared to current access.

Hee, point taken.

It will be interesting. I'm more interested in RBI, so more that cannot get BB can get it, plus those with low speed connections can get a gain. I don't know how UFB will affect you and me, as we have a sound broadband service, its more a business thing I feel.

Agree with the theory but for UFB there is a $1.3m interest free loan and for the RBI some grant money, both lower the net cost of the new infrastructure. So from the Chorus price list the entry level price is $37.50/month which is similar to the ADSL price - probably designed that way. However the speeds are faster etc.

So I expect there to be new plans just so that the ISPs can describe what you get differently (e.g. difference max speed and CIR) but the $ may not be that much different.

We don't need to guess though, this is a real UFB plan that you can get today if you are in the coverage area (Northland).

0.o that is a really good plan for the price! There website is a bit pants though, not being able to move those sliders is a pain, why have them there! But i guess its there inital offering and there will be more options later.

Ubergroup's pricing plans puts Xnet's to shame. I know they're on different fibre networks, but still...

Those Telecom Wholesale "Brightspark" fibre pilots precede UFB by several years, Xnet are not able to offer lower pricing on those yet as they are constrained by Telecom's pricing.

I imagine they will convert to Chorus UFB pricing/agreements sometime as part of the de-merger.

Sorry in advance these could be basic questions, im trying to get my head around this.
Who sets the prices for access? I see that is on Northpower fibre, so does northpower set the access charges or is that handled by a governing body such as crown fibre? I hope its the latter, as your going to have vastly different prices/plans for the entire country. Chorus are laying the fibre here and i have a bad feeling about what they are going to charge if they are indeed the ones that will set the prices, one could only dream of that sort of plan under Chorus administration!
