REANNZ is launching its own Internet service, KRIS (Karen Research Internet Service), available to members only.

At the request of Universities New Zealand and Science New Zealand, and the requirements of the wider KAREN member community for REANNZ to provide a collective purchasing arrangement for Internet, REANNZ has now completed a contestable, open, procurement process to select an ISP to provide Internet, via KAREN, to KAREN members.

REANNZ went to the market with the combined demand of all our members for Internet and, on your behalf, have been able to secure a remarkable deal. The KAREN Research Internet Service, provided by REANNZ will deliver Internet to subscribing members.

Members choosing to subscribe to this new service will contract directly with REANNZ for delivery of the Internet they require.

REANNZ has selected SNAP Internet as the successful tenderer. Subscribing members will have the award winning support and tools provided by SNAP Internet, but fronted by REANNZ.

The KAREN Research Internet Service (KRIS) will be available from 16 January 2012 – you may join the service at any time.

The rate card shows prices in international bandwidth, instead of allowances. Prices vary from $74 per Mb/s (less than 10 Mbps) to $49 per Mb/s (more than 101 Mbps). Domestic is free and matched to bandwidth.

Not to be confused with the New Zealand Universities KRIS (Kiwi Research Information Service) underpinning nzresearch.org. How about calling it KAREN kNolwedge Information Freeway Experiment (KNIFE)?
