The main page of the pacific fibre website has text saying 'Pacific Fibre?s aim is to help carriers make fast, inexpensive, unlimited broadband a reality'. Vodafone has already signed on so does this mean Vodafone could release unlimited broadband plans or far far larger data caps like in the hundreds of gigabytes for a real real cheap price?
With the way transit prices are falling I'd say it will be a reality long before that cable system is operational.
I'd love for an ISP to trial removing all data caps, and keep with it for 3 months. By 3 months users would have already had their shot and downloading the whole internet and over time go back to their usual usage patterns.
Sure there will always be the few that push the boundaries (who can be managed by fair usage clauses), however overall I'd be surprised if it wasn't sustainable.
Unlimited is sustainable for sure, we have it with our work internet. International is the main cost so as long as users don't expect massive international speeds it should be doable. All the caching etc. really helps.
