Hi guys, i have encountered some problem with my broadband since 2011 (i know thats last year...)

I m having my broadband with ISP slingshot since 2009, and the initial speed i had was around 4-5Mbps downstream. however since sometime of 2011, it dropped to 2Mbps max. and now it can only maintains at around 1.5Mbps. I can no longer cop with this turtle speed anymore!!

does anyone have the save problem, or can anyone give me some useful suggestions on how i can improve my broadband speed?? change ISP??

I have done some research online and i saw ppl taking about vdsl stuff, and things like need to change from exchange to cabinets?? i m not sure what that means, so please help~~ thanks

BTW to make it clearer, i have spliter installed, so there is no need for any filters. and i havent done anything to the internal wiring before the speed drop.

Ring your ISP and log it as a fault as it's under 10mbit

My guess would be faulty cable pairs. But make sure your ADSL jackpoint is still in good condition (no corrosion) and the wiring is still in good condition. Once you are satisfied with your internal wiring ring your ISP and get a faultmen out.

thanks guys for replying, i think my jackpoint and the wire should be fine, coz when they installed the spliter they put in a new wire and jack for the adsl cable...and i have just called slingshot, so i m waitting for the faultman to have a look at it.

btw how can i tell if i m covered by VDSL? i saw ppl with crazy fast speed by using VDSL... i would like to change to it if it is available to me.

thank you so much for giving the link, i m covered by VDSL. Any suggested ISP that can provide VDSL? coz i guess slingshot could not, when i asked the customer service about VDSL just now, our conversation suddently finished....i dont think that s an accident.

Hi, so the numbers you quote in your first post I presume are speedtest figures or line stats, if the former could you please post your modem line stats.

Cheers

Yeah login to your modem's admin web page and post the line stats (line rate, attenuation etc).

44 dB attenuation should get around 8Mbit downstream line rate rather than 1.2Mbit.

Could be a problem with your modem, your house wiring or some problem with the line back to the cabinet/exchange.

Keep going with the help desk and fault process.

I have read this post and i think i am one of them.... coz from the chorus map i can see the cabinet of my area is completed around may 2011, which is about the time my speed dropped...
