Hi. Just had a door to door salesman here a couple of minutes ago I believe from Compass. He's coming back in 30 minutes. Does Compass have access to Telstraclears' cable system. Can they sell services on it and take over as my ISP?

Not that I'm aware of. There are a number of ISP's that offer internet access over TCL cable but I've never seen Compass doing this. They would just deliver services over Chorus copper.

Whatever it is, don't sign anything unless you are sure it's what you want. Don't feel pressured. And most importantly, save any paper they hand to you, as evidence of offer.

Hi teamyoyo,

Please note that Compass does not sell TelstraClear cable. If you email me (click the Email button in the ribbon above this post) with as much detail as you can I’ll pass this on so we can address this with Compass.

Cheers, Gary

Perhaps this has changed but I know for the fact that they used to circa 2008.

Also write down their name and any prices and other details on any verbal offers that you might be interested in.

If you have voice recorder, use that to your advantage. If asked, say you want to remember the details of the dialogue.

The guy never came back so I guess I scared him off asking questions and using terms he didn't understand. He refused to give me any paperwork or pamphlet until he got my details - which I refused to do. Judging by his reactions he'd only been trained the basics - just enough to get my details.

I remember talking to a Wellington ISP about resold TCL Cable. Apparently its not really an option in many cases as it can take weeks to fix a fault (even if the whole thing is offline). Apparently its the same situation with Smartlinx3

but also dont forget that with door-to-door sales you get a "7 day cooling off period" so that if you feel you were pressured into signing something you really didnt want, you are legally allowed to cancel.
