Would it be worthwhile to get a master filter installed? All the internal wiring is new.
Apologies for the large images.

Just ring your service provider tell em what it looks like and they will get a chorus tech to come and fix up, it is outside the house in ETP so won't cost you a thing

By the way, it doesnt really look to bad wont be affecting phone or dsl, I have seen much much worse where  the phone is still going.

As for the master filter, yes I would recommend you get a Splitter they are worth their weight when it comes to stable fast dsl, they go in etp and make sure you put in new cable (usually cat 5) and have a dedicated Jack point for adsl

Hi, looks like part of the wall disapeared or for whatever reason someone has taken the ETP out of the bend in the ground and stuck it under the house.

If we ignore that fact and make an assumption that the cat5/6 4pair thats connected to the line in is dry then that part of the wiring whilst nasty is probably ok.

What is important (if you want your DSL to work correctly) is where does it go from there.

Probably answers the question "why does my Internet stop working when it rains?"

Some background info:

We re-located this "house" from in town, it was previously a building where the "nuns" would stay. We got it quite cheap. On the day before the house was due to be moved (after it had sat in town for one year on barrels) the whole thing got ripped off. All the wiring was stolen, basically anything metallic. We had to pay to get the whole house rewired. Previously it had had many, many phone jacks but we removed all but three. One in the the main kitchen, one in the other kitchen and one in my room. We also had Sky installed some time later and the guy installed another jack which was later relocated to below where it previously was.

I believe that the EPT was originally on a funny angle initially then when they put the boards onto the house they must have bent it over. See below some pictures of the internal wiring:

Secondary Kitchen

My room

Hi, so the cable from the grey cat5/6 ETP goes to your room, how does the phone service get to the other two outlets, I can see stuff in the flush box behind but its not clear what it is, is that the other two circuits or something else.

Slight aside, how do you get on in houses now with the structured wiring approach, where the outlets are just sockets with none of that telephone circuit board component stuff like the capacitor/inductors in the pictures above?

I'd say that the cable comes from the ETP -> Main Kitchen -> My Room -> Other Kitchen.

I think this is just one running off the other...

Hi Cody, but these is no indication of where the joints are, or is there a joint somewhere we have not been shown.

Jaxon, not too sure what you mean.

I think the joints are somewhere in the wall outside of my room. Unfortunately, I cannot just pull the wall off (it went up properly the other day). If it helps when I tried to pull the socket in my room out a bit more I couldn't but I could with the others.

No worries, it was written crapily.

Ah, basically are the bits like the ring capacitor etc just not needed any more?

Back in the day the line came into outlets full of electronic components.  These days we just feed the line straight out to standard RJ45 type connectors.

So the general consensus is to get Chorus out (what should I be asking for?) and to get a master filter installed?

Is the Your room box the one that is closest to the ETP? As Cyril says, that'll account for the grey cable.

But knowing where/how that turns into the cat5 blue cable (used in the kitchens) is really what you need to find out (unless you can see all that in the back of the same box.)

And as the kitchen ones only have one cable coming into each box there is another junction somewhere. (perhaps involving 1 of the white cables we can see in the back of Your Room box)

The setup goes like this: Road --- ETP --- Main Kitchen --- My room (where I am quite sure the joint is) --- Other kitchen.
