I am on the Halcombe exchange and we used to always get ADSL1 (albeit at a slow speed) but after doing some diagnostics with Vodafone & Chorus they are now testing out some newer profiles. Is it even possible that I could have been put up to ADSL2+ considering that the Chrous website does not mention it?

Some stats:

ModulationType: ADSL2+

Up Down
CurrRate(kbps) 712 1525
MaxRate(kbps) 800 2008
NoiseMargin(dB) 13.1 12.2
Attenuation(dB) 66.5 32.8
Power(dBm) 12.8 0.0

Well, your modulation is showing as ADSL2+, so it looks like it. I would have expected it to show G.dmt otherwise.

There have been a few comments recently suggesting that the Chorus site is not currently 100% accurate - perhaps someone with local knowledge can confirm?

Yes, G.dmt is what it used to be. Surely then the exchange must have been upgraded.

Yeah, the reason why I posted was because the speeds had been changing a lot (downwards, largely) and the modulation type had changed.

7.5KM/s I was told by Orcon but I cannot be sure on this. You would be the one with access to systems to check that :P

If you are that distance from the exchange you are lucky you get ADSL at all

Is it possible to find the rough exchange location? Doing a quick check on Google Maps (obviously not factoring anything else in) shows that the distance from my house to central Halcombe is roughly 5KM/s.

If it is faster on Adsl 1 then just force your modem to G.dmt

I'm leaving it as it is for now as the ISP (Vodafone) claimed that the faults team (Chorus) had changed the profile and to leave it for 24 hours. However, I notice the speed is fluctuating quite a bit.

This is why they don't like connecting customers up that are over a certain distance from the exchange / cabinet

They said that there was a low sync speed issue, so apparently I should be expecting higher speeds.

Also, I have never personally experienced a dropout on the line so I can only assume that it should be going faster.

Low sync I would say is because you are so far from cabinet / exchange

If they can improve it that is all good
