Just saw this from Maxnet

http://www.maxnet.co.nz/news/3/143/Wait-Listing-the-Unlimited-Plans.html

Sounds like they are going to have a fixed number of users on unlimited so their network doesnt get hammered and then new users go on a wait list and can go on the plan when an existing user leaves.

Interesting concept

Yeah it is a bit of a different approach, I think unlimited plans are the way to go as no one likes having to monitor their usage to ensure there is no bill shock at the end of the month.

So far a number of ISPs have tried unlimited plans, yet only managed to attract several extremely high usage users who eventually make the plans nonviable, or suffer from poor performance.

Quite looking forward to see this in action and what it does to their utilisation graphs which they are publishing

Quite a number of people over at gpforums seem to have signed up already for the waiting list.

It would be great to see some more Maxnet volunteers in our monitoring list. We are quite close to being able to publish some results for Maxnet.
