Looking at having naked broadband as don't want a phone, but notice that it is nearly the same price as a package with a phone line, so what is the point??, or has some catch to it.
I have a telstraclear box for there cable at my house, so checked out there naked cable plans and seems to be the only true 'naked' connection pricing, but I don't like TelstraClears 'uncapped' data plans of just adding more $$ to your bill, would prefer a speed slow down with a choice to buy more data if needed and bill amont certainty,
I can't understand why TelstraClear don't offer this, do they hope some nasties get into PC's so people end up with a $5000 BB bill to pay them.

Does anyone know of any decent naked deals??

And will TelstraClear ever offer a choice of data caps!!!!!!!!

Naked DSL still requires a copper line, doesn't need a telephone number attached to it.

Naked pricing over the Chorus copper network is a regulated offering with pricing set by the Commerce Commission. The wholesale prices of this service was increased by the Commerce Commission on November, so if you have issues they are the people to contact.

As for "decent" deals I guess that depends entirely what you define as "decent". IMHO there are plenty of exceptionally good deals around these days with some brilliant ~$100 VDSL2 pricing advertised on here last month.

Ad for TelstraClear offering a choice of data caps, I assume you mean will they offer the ability to have rate shaped plans? I'd highly doubt it, as it's something many ISP's have moved away from and only a minority of people in NZ are on such plans these days.

You're not suggesting for one minute that it might be reasonable for a business to actually make a profit are you? Smile

Lots of people seem to think ISP's are charities. Factor in the naked UBA wholesale cost of $45.12 (excl) + tail extension costs if necessarily (could easily be another $7 excl) and suddenly you're at $60 incl GST for the wholesale cost of provding the connection to the end customer.

Now you've got to add in the cost of bandwidth, network infrastructure, power, marketing, support, billing, staff costs, hardware subsidies and installation costs (if not passed on to the customer). All these things cost $$ and yet people are wanting a $70 plan that gives them flat rate data.

I just wonder why a landline and broadband package is only $10 more than naked, and regarding 'rate shaped plans' that are capped, why does telstraclear not offer them for piece of mind to residential, isn't telecom our biggest ISP and they do.
I have a Vodafone 3G broadband usb stick thing on contract for a while and as of January 2012 they now give you the choice to purchase more bulk data or go casual rate via your Vodafone logon (or just not use it for the remander of billing date), so no big surprizes and piece of mind now, it feels a lot better, why can't telstra do the same?

Have you considered that maybe TelstraClear don't have the hardware or ability to offer this, and/or their customer research shows that people don't want this?

Most customer's don't want rate shaping, and the numbers of calls to help desks with customers complaining about rate shaping once they are shaped is unbelievably high.. Just look what happened to Stephen Fry when he exceeded his cap and found himself shaped.

Sure there are ISP's who offer the service, and if it's something important to you then this becomes a good selling point for the ISP.

As for why there is only a $10 difference? I've explained that above.

Wouldn't say Naked Broadband is a con, More like a Bad Joke, Cant speak for the numbers themselves but perhaps the regulation put in place did not go far enough, Luckily however we are moving away from that system over the next few years.
