My Desktop as Zone alarm Security suite on it, I installed this on my laptop and my laptop speed has been cut in half to the same speed as my desktop.

The price of decent security I guess.

Do you really need it? I mean, are you behind a router with firewall and NAT? If yes, perhaps using the Windows XP firewall would be enough, and not so intrusive.

I don't use any software firewall behind my router firewall. Of course you have to have enough anti-virus and anti-spyware protection already.
