I bought a 3 screens on a rail desk mount at PB tech today, to reduce clutter.

Anyway, this is the problem.

I would have thought the spec would have covered mechanical clearances from the bracket etc.

As it stands I will have to either grind the brackets down, or get longer M4 screws and a stack of washers to get it to clear the plastic on the monitors.

Who does the blame lie with for something like this? Dell or the bracket makers?

I wouldn't say the blame is on either parties. The VESA mounting standard just covers the screw positions and the weight: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flat_Display_Mounting_Interface

Im thinking it may be the bracket since

Common notes for variants B to E

says this..

The bracket is within a rounded rectangle whose sides extend at most 7.5 mm beyond the hole centers and with a corner radios of at least 6 mm.

Most stands that i have bought also came with an excessive amount of screws, washers and spacers so that the stand's mounting plate can be separated from the rear of the screen by 2cm long spacers.

Just pack it with washers. Possibly not the best designed mount though, looks a bit on the cheap side from the photo, if it didn't come with some advice with it. What does the mount instructions say? Dell monitors are very common and that is a common way dell do their mounts, so it is not as though it is an obsure brand..

Mount instructions are hopeless.

The mount is pretty crap too, the alu bar that the 3 brackets are on twists with the load of the screen at the end of the bar, so even when I angle the bracket up, the outter monitor is a few mm lower than the center one.

One of the cheap ex leases I bought blew up on power on so I am only running it with 2 at the moment. I expect with 3 the croookedness will go away.
