I have a four bay Seagate NAS Pro.

Amongst other things, it’s got music files on it which are accessed via Roon. I noticed the other day that one of the albums wasn’t showing and found none were.

The NAS is plugged in and the 1,2,3,4 numbers are lit. The power is lit. The two line dot matrix display shows nothing at all and the arrow keys are unresponsive.

It doesn’t show up on the laptop either.

Any ideas?

Too little information.

- Is this also the case after a power off and reboot? (Don‘t do this at the moment, it is just a question about the current state of the NAS!)

- There is a non field-replaceable battery in the NAS. Could it be empty and need replacement?

- Is it on a UPS or could it have been exposed to mains voltage fluctuations?

- Did you happen to have a thunderstorm with a lightning strike nearby? I ask to rule out that the network hardware has been affected by induced voltages via the network cable.

- And the most important question: Do you have a backup?

- NET: FTTH, OPNsense, 10G backbone, GWN APs, ipPBX
- SRV: 12 RU HA server cluster, 0.1 PB storage on premise
- IoT:   thread, zigbee, tasmota, BidCoS, LoRa, WX suite, IR
- 3D:    two 3D printers, 3D scanner, CNC router, laser cutter

1) Yes it is

2) Don't know

3) No and yes, although nothing else in the house has any issues

4) No

5) Sort of (some files are duplicated elsewhere)

Before I advise you to do something wrong by remote diagnosis, I recommend you to contact the customer service, as it says in the user manual under NAS OSrescue that one can lose data in the wrong procedure of possible three. My guess, but it's only a guess, is that the battery is dead and the NAS may have lost its configuration, since the HDDs are running.

Can you still access the NAS interface using a browser?

Have you turned it off and on again yet? Its just a computer so you know, when they crash you do what you do with computers.

Yes. Did nothing.

Not sure. I couldn’t remember how last night.

I’ll look it up when I get back later and try.

Although I have accessed it via browser before, I can't remember how to do so and am having trouble finding the information amongst the billions of things Google throws up when asked!

As soon as I figure it out I will revert.

I found the IP address that Roon was mapped to for the music folder.

It returns "server not responding" if you enter it into a browser.

Also Seagate appear to have abandoned support for the device. Even trying to download the manual gets "page not found" on their website.

Customer service is currently offline too.

It is not uncommon for Windows to 'lose' the network link to external devices, and in particular a NAS.

Sometimes simply refreshing the IP configuration helps re-establish the link.

Assuming you're running a flavour of Windows, open a command window and type "arp -a" (without the quote marks) to see what the IP addresses of devices in your network are. If the IP address you believe your NAS has doesn't appear, could it have changed to something else?
