The new AMD GPU are available now at PB Tech, thoughts worth getting?. It’s the last piece of kit I need to finsh my gaming pc with my son. I am in 2 minds on if it’s worth the price now or holding out to black Friday or seeing if the 4060 TI drops in price?

There are some good reviews out there from GN and HuB.

I don't rate the 4060 ti 8gb or 16gb for price point.

Before suggesting what might be best bang for buck.
We do need to know
what resolution
What games
What quantity setting aiming for
What FPS target

Similar to the AMD5 thread I stated sorry should have updated that one.,Games starfeild is one that we want to play , Hogwarts , call of duty , the last of us . We went AM5 with the AMD 5 7600x CPU. We normally play on ps5 , Xbox x . PC gaming is all new to us but want something mid range but can handle 4K don’t want to have to replace it within a couple of years

I'd avoid the 4060TI, its a terrible card. If you go for the 16GB you are pretty much at the same price as the 7800xt for 20% less performance.

You will probably have to check your power supply if you got for a 7800XT though as it does use a lot more power than a 4060TI.

If 4k is your target then a 7800XT is sufficient but would be better served by a 7900XT or rtx4080. Games with upscaling tend to produce better results with a 4k target but if you do end up playing games with that nvidias DLSS on 40xx series is ahead in features.

Starfield is a right mess for performance higher than 60fps so don’t base your performance expectations on it. If anything the most important part for Starfield is RAM performance which most people won’t get unless overclocking.

I could see the 7700 dropping in price as currently it does seem priced to close to the 7800. Will be interesting to see if Nvidia respond with any price drops. The NZ$ weakness isn't helping with pricing either.

I’m hoping that it drops before Christmas. I have a bit of time my son can play basic games with the intergrated CPU at the moment so he can wait a bit longer:)

Would recommend this review for the types of games you are thinking about.

https://t.co/gGQu5McY6s

The 7800xt can hit 4k 60fps on average.
Starfield is a bit of a mess, I have a 7900xtx and don't go above 60fps with fsr2 but that could be cou holding me back.

Imo I would say bang for buck would be 7800xt with free Starfield.
If you buy before the 30th.

GN has the 7800xt about 48fps average at 4k native.

One thing to keep in mind is the current promo for the 7x00  cards includes a free copy of Starfield. A 7800 XT is a good pick, if you can push the budget PB Tech has a 7900 XTX for $1700 at the mo.

Anything I say is the ramblings of an ill informed, opinionated so-and-so, and not representative of any of my past, present or future employers, and is also probably best disregarded.

That is the card I got.

Did have some early coil whine but has settled itself.
I hear headphones most of the time, so can't hear any if it is still there.

However it is a big price jump from $1000 to $1700 for an uplift that sometimes isn't that huge.

But if you do want to hit 4k at native in Starfield that is the best bang for buck.
Monster card though, I had to buy a new PC case when the HDD bay in my old one was in the way.

I was lucky enough to get starfield with the CPU, think I will get the 7800xt . May have to wait a bit my ceramic cook top element just went , might have to get a replacement hob before the GPU lol.

I would say quality of life and food before PC hardware.

I am not sure if the 7800xt will drop too much.
RRP is $500usd for base model.
So currency conversion, gst and shipping, and prices seem reasonable.
Being around $1000.... Lol what a world, mid range is $1000 and I just called it reasonable
.

Crazy world just got induction hob over lunch , so card will have to wait a bit longer . The price does seem pretty reasonable and a lot cheaper than the 7900

Funny enough this article came up for me today:

https://videocardz.com/newz/new-zealand-retailer-offers-nvidia-geforce-rtx-4070-at-lower-price-than-radeon-rx-7800-xt

I’m not aware of the build specs of Galax cards but if that sale is still there then it’s an option. Since you already own Starfield it’s not really a factor unless you’re able to sell it off to someone (or gift to a friend).

4070 is roughly on par or under a 7800xt by 10% in AMD sponsored games or even further in exceptions like Starfield. You do however get the benefit of nvidias DLSS3 features plus Reflex if your son is after any competitive games.

AMD do not yet have an equivalent featureset, it is supposedly ‘coming soon’ with FSR3 and antilag+ with no guarantee it can match nvidias AI driven performance. Modders are also creating replacements for AMD games which don’t include DLSS so it’s becoming less of a factor in choosing.

Since you’ve had to delay the purchase (I assume) you can keep watch on prices or updates to whats available.

Here is the 4070 GPU for $999.99 at pbtech.
https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/VGAGLX040703/GALAX-NVIDIA-GeForce-RTX-4070-1-CLICK-OC-X2-12GB-G

Definitely suggest this card over the 4060 TI.

It has 4gb less ram, a little bit slower in raster, but does come with a lot of NVDIAs tech.

Honestly hard to say what the future will hold, aka will more games use dlss and NVIDIA ray tracing tech, etc.
12gb is enough atm but it could be a limiter in the future, I say this because PC Devs have been using more of that vram.
But will 12gb be the new sweet spot, no clue
