Current system does not meet the requirements for Win11.

It's a Gigagyte H270N mobo, Intel i5-7400 CPU, 8GB RAM.

Win10 installed on a M.2 Samsung SSD 970 Evo Plus 250GB.

Fails on no TPM2, no secure boot, and incompatible CPU.

If I was able to source a mobo with TPM2 and CPU that was Win11 friendly, can I just put the SSD in it and it will boot?

Or is it going to be more complicated than that?

Yes the SSD prob would boot, but for best performance with any major hardware change, you're best to do a clean install so it installs all the correct drivers etc and not hit conflicts with any of the old system.

I'm running the latest W11 24H2 on an i7-6700 just fine. There are workarounds that bypass the system requirements when installing Windows which are easy enough to do, and don't impact your system despite what some people might think.

I'd suggest trying the bypass method before spending uneccesary money upgrading your system for very little benefit (besides potential performance & efficiency increases).

If you plan to perform a clean installation of Windows 11, you can boot from installation media and run Windows Setup. That option skips the CPU compatibility check completely (but still requires a TPM and Secure Boot support). After the installation completes, you'll need to reinstall all your apps, restore your data files, and tweak settings to personalize your system preferences.

THats what I have done to get all my old random PCs around the place working on 11 properly.

Celeron G4930 CPU from aliexpress for $7 or so - dual core dunger of a thing,

Asus PRIME B360M-A motherboard - about $100

ENVINDA DDR4 PC RAM - $16GB sticks were about $20 each on the choice choose at least 3 things deals so I got heaps of them for all the computers. Put 2 in the board with the celeron.

Performance is not as good as a 4th gen i7 for how it feels to use, but it works fine for mundane things and I can put storage and cards in which isnt possible with the mini PCs which was the other replacement option.

I'm trying bargain bin shopping at Aliexpress.

But I'm a bit stuck on selecting a CPU (LGA1151).

There are filters for 14 or 22 nanometers, and I cant see which one the above board needs.

Other H310m boards seem to be 14, so this one should be too?

And I would be looking for one that is i3/i5/i7 8xxx/9xxx?

No GPU in that CPU as its the F version , so your onboard ports will not work and you will have to add a video card.

Im regarding the celerons I got as disposable, when something better comes along and I am not so broke I will swap them out for an i5 or something, but I need the GPU so that cheap 9400F is no good for me, and it seems to double if its something with intel graphics and not crap which is why the celeron was so appealing at just about free.

No I have not. Literally too scared to.

With all due respect, why are you scared? You aren’t running a business. Microsoft doesn’t care, theres no win11 police knocking on doors :)

It’s widely known that the tpm etc. requirements are hogwash and all it does is bin hardware that is still usable.
