Are you sure you don't mean a 3.5" panel? Most PC cases have 5.25" slots for optical drives, and 3.5" slots for floppy drives, card readers, etc.

Yes, I meant 3.5" (floppy drive size), not 2.5 err... feet, as I accidentally wrote.

Is there even a standard for headers yet? Last I checked intel were still dragging their heels with it, and noone wanted to repeat the mess that was USB1.1 headers when they started to come out in a non standard way blowing up peoples USB stuff when connected to a mismatched case and mo-bo combo.

"The FP36 has cables that connect directly to motherboard rear I/O panel’s USB 3.0 ports (for motherboards with built-in USB 3.0 support)"
So it may do.

So it may do.

I'm pretty sure that means it's just an extension cables that plugs into the USB 3.0 ports at the back of your motherboard. Those are quite common because many motherboard have USB 3.0 ports at the back, but no USB 3.0 header (I have one of these).

Yeah, you're right.
Just had a look at the Silverstone website and it is just an extension.

I've also got a motherboard with rear USB3.0 ports, so I might actually look at this some more.

This looks promising though. Not quite a complete solution, but it's halfway there.

Your just being cheap, you want something new and not in great supply, could be way worse than that.

Otherwise DX have some that have a PCIe plug on the end which I have one of on the way to me and will see how it goes when it gets here.

I suppose it is a little steep for such a basic part, but it's only around NZ$30 landed.
It's also a pity that you can't get such a part in NZ.
