What processor? I saw an interesting thing recently that showed there was less than 2% raw speed difference between a i5 2700K (I think) and the current i5 equivalent.

Unfortunatly yes, its a better card, and is more future proof

currently using i5 4460 at 3.2 Ghz. It's not noticeable in games, just on the 3DMark benchmark

You might even consider waiting for the RX 480's release next week if you want to save on some cash.

Early leaked benchmarks for the 480 has it being on par with the RX 390 Fury / GTX 980 for 200 USD or about 350-400 NZD

My 970GTX @1440p got a score of 10,000 and I have a i7 4770K Processor.

My 1070 GTX @ 1440p got a score of 14595.

My "active" dp to DVI-D adapter doesn't work with my 1440p screen!

For some reason HDMI doesn't work either!

I am down to 1 screen!

Ok well fixed that!

I don't know why even with HDMI 2 on this new card, it won't detect the card able to do better than 1080p on the HDMI interface. Still have to make a custom resolution to get it working!

I have 2 screens now, now I need to get this third screen going!

I see that the GTX 1060 has now been released. Reviews are up and it is looking pretty good for the price point.

Playtech and PB Tech have them for around the $650

Gigabyte GTX 1060 @ Playtech

$650 is hardly pocket change.

But it is the price point the 970 held when the nzd was stronger.

Anything I say is the ramblings of an ill informed, opinionated so-and-so, and not representative of any of my past, present or future employers, and is also probably best disregarded.

And you'd be right, but compared to the $799 plus price point for the GTX 1070 and $1300 odd for the 1080 it is certainly more affordable.

I'm saving up for a 1070 myself and it will take me a few months to do so but I'm prepared to wait.

The 1070 is a beast. It feels a lot like Nvidia is charging a real premium for it's mid and mid-high range stuff these days.

1070 is a beast..

It really depends what you use it for though if you play games with cross fire support you might be better rocking 2x $499 non reference overclocked RX480"s. A 1070 is about $900?? And a 1080 is about $1350?

If the games you play have bad crossfire support then yeh 1060 or a 1070 depending on your budget imo

A 480 is $200 cheaper, not sure why anyone would get a 1060 over a 480 at current prices
