antonknee: Slightly off topic, but man do I wish Outlook had Gmail's labels. ...

Agreed

...

I have one additional wish for labels. (This most likely is one of those vi vs.Emacs, cats vs. dogs type situations)

You have the ability to nest labels / sub-labels. I would like nested labels to appear in the search for the parent label. Based on the screenshot below, if I search for "Wealth", I'd also like to find "Wealth/Income", "Wealth/Insurance" etc.

Right now, to achieve the desired outcome, I have to double label emails resulting in the two pink blocks in the screenshot below

Which is why I asked about the duplicate emails during the import.

Ta. Have just checked and don't seem to have the waiting list option enabled, apparently still rolling out.

Arrived very early this morning:

=====

Hi there,
Discontinued in 2012, the G Suite no-fee legacy edition has provided access to premium Google apps features for over 10 years. On 1 June 2022, Google will begin upgrading G Suite no-fee legacy edition accounts to Google Workspace.

Don’t wait: upgrade today and save.
When upgrading to a Google Workspace paid subscription, you’ll unlock new premium collaboration and security features while continuing to have access to all the ones that you already love like using Gmail with your custom domain (e.g. your-name@example.com) and the ability to manage multiple users. As a valued customer, you can get started now with Google Workspace Business Starter. Billing will not start until at least 1 August 2022, and you’ll also get a discount of at least 50% for 12 months after that date.*

Note: If you no longer want to use Gmail with your custom domain or the ability to manage multiple users, you’ll be able to join a waitlist in the Google Workspace Admin console for a no-cost option in the coming weeks.

In addition to all the features that you already rely on, let’s take a look at several new capabilities Business Starter gives you: ...

=====

Underline emphasis mine.

I hope a no-cost migration option will be on offer for a subset of accounts. It is logical.

I now have a banner prompting me to make a change on my domain in my Gmail, so I'm guessing the odds of a low/no cost option is gone and this is the best we're going to get?

It looks like the low/no cost option Google are offering is a way to migrate your purchases and data to a gmail account.  So the only thing you can do to retain your google workspace for your own domain name is to pay their fee, or work with a non-profit that will take on board your domain as a secondary domain.  I made a call and spoke with their sales team for Google workspace, and that was a suggestion from them.

Anyone here keen to start a non-profit for the poor, displaced free tier souls? I think you'd have a lot of supporters 🀣

TBH it just shows that Google could simply migrate existing family accounts (or maybe accounts with up to 10 emails) to a not for profit style account. Bit of a shame they still don't offer a family account.  If they did that I'd be paying for a YouTube family premium subscription which I cannot do today with a Workspace account. Shooting themselves in the foot a little here.

I have now successfully migrated all emails across to Migadu and they work fine.

I want to retain my custom email addresses as Google accounts for things like YouTube and other things where I sign in with Google.

Is it clear a) if I can do this, and b) how I do it?

There is no paid content associated with the accounts, so if I had to completely delete them and then set up a new Google account for each address, while not ideal, I guess I could do that. I don’t need any admin console or centralised managements of the accounts.

Noticed Re-launching 'Gmail' on the mobile just now has even got a 'Google Workspace' splashscreen now.

Really does leave those using a single account. On a single domain, and none of any of the other features high and dry.

Given we (or spammers as it were) can still freely sign up for 'free for life'(?) gmail accounts. Figured the overhead of getting the domain there is just a few top level server adjustments and no skin outside that. That or more than we think have been using it and they suddenly think it's a cash cow.

Have migrated to Workspace for Nonprofits for one of my G Suites, using Techsoup as someone else mentioned here.

  • Signed up to techsoup
  • Sent them the letter of incorporation (downloaded from Societies website) and info from IRD saying we're income tax exempt (from club treasurer)
  • After a few days Techsoup had processed and accepted this and I got a token that I used to sign up for Workspace for Nonprofits. That was completed in about 12 hours so we're not good to go.

Nice to get the improvements that come with this edition as well.

For the other G Suite (the family) we've decided that for two of us it is worth the money - looks like we will have to swallow the cost for the others who probably don't get their money worth. At least full price is still over a year away.

Has anyone managed to "join a waitlist for a no-cost option" yet? I've still got the coming soon splash screen.

Has anybody here heard about Google Workspace Individual?

The help page is available here. Is this what will replace the free G Suite? Currently only available in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Japan, Mexico, United States

Edit:

Man, I knew I should have read more before posting about this excitedly.

  • πŸ‘ Google Workspace Individual premium features are compatible with Google One.
  • πŸ€” The Google Workspace Individual features come as a bundle, which will grow over time as more premium features get added. For additional business features designed for a team or organization, check out our other Google Workspace plans.
  • πŸ‘Ž Google Workspace Individual is a plan built for one user. If you're interested in using Google Workspace for your team, you should consider Google Workspace Essentials.
  • πŸ‘Ž Workspace Individual does not come with a custom email address. Check out Google Workspace and Google Workspace for Education if you need one.
