If they're going to get you, it's going to be through user convenience. And the fact of being Google paranoid does not mean that they are not after me. ;-))

mdf:

Has anyone managed to "join a waitlist for a no-cost option" yet? I've still got the coming soon splash screen.

I still only see "Or, in the coming weeks, you'll be able to join a waitlist for a no-cost option." at the top of the admin console :-\

Same here, on all three GApps admin logins I have access to...

The bait was good at the time but the switches ... I'm still sore about them killing XMPP support.

I'm favouring moving my accounts to no cost Gmail's and forwardemail.net.

I may still jump to Office 365 family if I can figure out if I can get catch all working but haven't had time to research that option.

It's all pretty disappointing really.

I'm holding out hope for an easy migration path to an @gmail.com account with all emails, contacts etc preserved for my 3 email only family members. Then I'll do 365 Business Basic for me on a new domain and an email forwarder for the old (current) domain email addresses. Very thankful I've got all my Play Store etc stuff on my @gmail.com account.

MS Business Basic is great value, if you have use for the 1TB of OneDrive storage.

For those that have been hanging around playing chicken with Google their no cost offer is being emailed out tomorrow.

Link to announcement followed by much much conjecture

I cannot find the waiting list signup for the no cost option or the accept page for that option. Any suggestions?

I want to understand it and maybe trial it although I think it's not going to suit me.

There is no waiting list. Tomorrow there should be an email outlining a no cost option. There is a lot of speculation around what this will be but until it's out there that's all it is, speculation.

See what tomorrow brings!

I have some confusion about workspace plans vs drive plans. For example Business Starter is NZD $9 with 30 GB storage:

https://workspace.google.com/landing/partners/referral/gws.html

I'm also offered Google drive plans with 100GB for $2.99.

Then there's Google One.

I have not figured out how these all relate...

Google Drive plans only increase Google Drive storage.

Google One is only for non-Workspace accounts.

gzt: I have some confusion about workspace plans vs drive plans. ... I have not figured out how these all relate...

  • For example Business Starter is NZD $9 with 30 GB storage - per user license & charges
  • I'm also offered Google drive plans with 100GB for $2.99 - additional storage on one of the plans?
  • Then there's Google One - Only available to personal Google accounts, not available to any Workspace type accounts 😡

Well. Kudos to Google. I never thought this would happen but playing chicken pays off sometimes. They are letting us keep Gsuite legacy for personal use. Amazing.

I could say the process was pretty messy and caused lots of people stress but the end result is great. Thanks Google!

Wow... That's an amazing result... I didn't expect it but it makes my life easier... I was going to end up paying for mine as I am too deep into the ecosystem but I was going to have to transition 2 other family members to _something_

Phew!

Cheers -N
