1101:
sdav: As an aside, how long would you expect a printer like this to last? I paid $150 (which I think is cheap)

Its not reasonable to expect a cheap printer to last. They are cheap because the are cheap :-)

btw , many printers are far far cheaper than $150 so I fully understand your frustration.
You can try jumping up & down & claim CGA, that sometimes gets a refund/repair . Just make sure it hasnt got any aftermarket/refilled
ink carts in it as they will use that as an excuse to void any warranty

Yeah I know cheap is cheap but I also bought a cheap Canon printer rather than a cheap no name brand thinking I would get more milage. The ink I did change too wasn't Canon and if they give that as a reason then I would be pretty annoyed. Unless, (and I know nothing about this stuff) it's possible for the chip in the cartridges to fry other components in the printer and result in a completely dead printer? I don't know...

FWIW Canon agreed to fix it out of warrantee and I have it back. Sounds like a lot of components failed. They replaced almost everything! Happy with that service and glad I bought from a retail store and not parallel imported ha!
