You should be getting 3.72TB. 4x 931GB Platters. Might be bad a bad bit or what ever.

weird, so one platter might be damaged?

it was brought from pbtech 2 weeks ago so they should simply swap in over...

Depending on what they cost you, I'd be inclined to take that one back for a refund as it falls short of what it's supposed to be.

Test it in another device. If it reads the same. Take it back as its a defective drive.

Yeah sounds quite strange, I would put my money on it being a platter that isn't working in your hard drive, because 2.72GB is what you would get for a 3TB hard drive, so as I understand it a 4TB hard drive has a extra platter? So I would think that it either isn't working or they put the wrong sticker on your drive.

So I returned the hard drive and got a replacement, same issue.

When I went back the second time, one of the pbtechs asked if I had a gigabyte motherboard.  Turned out that it is a motherboard bug that can't handle 4tb harddrives and I need to update my bios.  To restore the harddrive you need seatools for dos

The two that had worked, I must have initialized on one of the other machines I have floating around, rather than my main pc

Wow that's crazy, had a issue with my Gigabyte board also that wouldn't work with a specific sound card and I had to update my BIOS just for it to work....still didn't work correctly after the update.
