Some of those Marvell SATA-3 chips don't have a great reputation for delivering SATA-3 speeds. There are a lot of people with Intel motherboards with both Marvell SATA-3 and Intel SATA-2 ports that get better SSD performance from the Intel SATA-2. I wouldn't be shocked if it was the same with the AMD motherboards.

Definitely leaning towards the motherboard. Time for an upgrade anyway I think. Will have to do my research considering chipsets and SSD performance this time around. This board did come out around the same time as SATAIII was announced, so that has probably contributed.

I'm happy with the latest results. They seem better than my very first ones. 260MB/s Read and 194MB/s Write.

I'll be reviving this thread once I get my hands on a new board.

very nearly purchased a mushkin ssd on the weekend just gone, to put inside the Intel NUC I was building up, as the price was very tempting, but saw this thread and thought the better of it. Decided to fork out the extra and get one of the Crucial 550's instead along with a Crucial mSata drive for the OS. Been very happy with the speed of both and the little NUC is doing a fine job of running my VM's.

Nothing against Mushkin. They produce some kick arse high performance equipment. I was initially skeptical of the drive, but realised my lack of knowledge behind the technology may be to blame. To an extent it was, but it also appears my old motherboard (even though the technology is built for purpose) could be hamstringing me.

The 550 is an amazing performer though. Make sure you update the firmware on that beast. Apparently they just get faster and faster with each firmware modification!
