Yea I don't have any experience in overclocking the G3258 but didn't think there would be much headroom with the stock cooler. If he didn't want to overclock, swapping out the cpu for an i3 would be better.
Ex-lease pcs may be cheaper but I don't know how big the cases on those are and whether they'd fit a graphics card
It's a wonder CPU, I'm running mine at 4.2GHz, with stock cooler, 1.1v vcore. Only thing to know is you need to delete/rename mcupdate_genuineintel.dll if you want to overclock on windows 10 with a non z97 chipset.
