Xeon: You could try force the fan to 100% with manual mode and see if it still crashes. How am I able to force the fan to 100%? And which fan do you mean, the ones on the graphic card or all my fans in the PC? (Have 1 top left corner and 2 fans to the left:1 top/1 bottom - both near the HD cage, and 1 on the hyper 212 evo cooler).
I would presume its dead however.
richms: Heatsinks not gone all loose from the chip has it? Some of those blower ones weigh heaps and gravity is working against them in the silly ATX case design.Unsure about this, but don't think it looks loose - I took the card out and plugged it back in and fans were on pretty good and they were clean as well.
xpd: Temp looks alright (my ATI was hitting higher than that before it started giving me issues), but Xeon mentioned, crank up the fans to 100% and run one of those tests again and see what happens. It'll probably be noisy but at least will give you an idea if it is heat related or not....How can I crank the fans up to 100%? (Please see my first comment in this post :D)
Brumfondl: You should be able to use fan control in Afterburner to set the GPU fans to 100%.
flixide: Hi all,
Back with another update - did some more testing.
Took out the Asus Strix 970 graphics card and tested using onboard graphics
Aida64 - Did not test
Furmark test - was not able to test as did not meet requirements
3D Mark firestrike - took a hell of a long time but successfully completed
Counter-strike Global offensive - was not able to test as did not meet requirements
AIDA64 extreme GPU Test - I turned GPU fan to 100% and ran this test for 1 hour and it went fine, no crash at all. Fans were really loud though!
Furmark test - completed successfully 2/5 times, other 3 times, the PC crashed
3DMark Firestrike test - ran this test about 5 times, all times it crashed instantly/after few secs except for one time it went on for a good few minutes and almost made it to the end and crashed.
Counter-strike global offensive - most of the time game crashed instantly, but it worked one time and had a game for about 5mins or so before crashing.
Conclusion - So the tests seem very inconsistent but I believe it all points to the graphics card being very unstable/faulty.
What do you guys think? My next best move is to get in touch with the store I brought it from and return/replace?
Thanks
