Hey guys, so I've been doing a little research and have decided on having the i5 8600K with a GTX 1060 6gb and 256/500gb ssd with a 1/2 TB hhd. in terms on the list on components listed above for an AMD and Intel build, would it differ much with these components I want to get it sub 2K?

With the AMD list you could easily go down to a Ryzen 2600(x) and use the cash on a 2TB hard drive.

Personally I would stick with the Ryzen if you step down a tier as the 2600(x) has 6 cores 12 threads versus the 8600k's 6core 6 threads.

Could step down to 3000 CL16 RAM. A 256GB SSD would save you maybe $50 over a 500GB, but the extra fast space is certainly worth it. Remember you could save upwards of 10% with the holiday season sales coming up. That'll bring down your cost from 2k to 1.8k easily.

I would definitely not skimp on the PSU, the ones i've listed are very high quality, they should have 7 year warranties and they will certainly last that long. You'll be able to keep it for any future builds you do, same with the case.

Pbtech, Playtech, Computer Lounge. Maybe a few other online retailers.

Things that'll likely come down are mobo, psu, ssd, hdd, case. CPU, RAM and GFX unlikely to see more than 5-10% unless something drops the price heavily.

Amazon of course being 'murican will have decent discounts happening on black friday, if you're up for that avenue of obtaining parts.

Also to add to my previous comment. Reason I recommend the ryzen for more threads is that some recent games use upwards of eight eg. the recent Battlefields. All current i7's (except 9700, its now the i9) have hyperthreading for 4c 8t which made them last longer than the i5's which stuttered at 4c 4t. All Ryzen 2xxx cpus have double threads and can clock to 4.2GHz which make them better on value in the mid-range, plus you can use the motherboard (AM4) for the next gen ryzen coming out around april next year.

The gain from multithreading in gaming is not as big as the gain from using those funds for a better graphics card. Especially as it is only beneficial in some games.

Pcpartpicker is the best place to put a build together and figure out pricing and compatibility

you could shop around and find better prices possibly, Reducing the ram down to 8GB could be a good saving as well

Yes z390 will work with coffeelake. No it's not really worth it unless you can quantify the expensive with a mobo that has better features eg. high speed usb or better power delivery. Can look at amazon if you finding limited availability.

To be honest, the motherboard is the hardest piece to pick given how much is bundled in to it.

This mobo info doesn't just apply to z390. Every platform will have boards that are inconsistent with power delivery quality. You often have to search deep to get comparisons of boards.

Same reason why you can't really just go with a power supply by the number of Watts on the sticker (or the bronze/silver/gold rating). You have to take a good look at how it performs versus the watts/price ratio.

Now the question is, with what is left on mighty ape, playtech, computer lounge and PB. What would be ab decent Z370 mobo without breaking the bank? I initially wanted MSI Z370 TOMAHAWK or ASRock Z370 Extreme 4 ATX Motherboard but can't seem to find them anymore.

Also would the 550W be enough? some people I've asked said it will be fine with this build.
