Up to 20 trans-coding...you'll be needing a p2000. And an old GTX 980 or 1080 won't do... cause Nvidia cripples them to 2 trans-codes.
DS918+ is not going to "transcode" anywhere near 20.

Interested in this topic as well :) I've got a ~7yo QNAP NAS which is super slow. I was looking at this same NAS, but I'm so surprised it's $900 for sub-par specs. It's just a very small PC.
For about half the price you can buy a similar PC, and with FreeNAS you're good to go. Or am I thinking too easy? E.g. for ~$500 you have a way better specced PC:

I've been recommended by Plex people on their forums to buy this one..

But get the ram upgrade..
I'm also considering the power usage, 800w for my current pc.. vs 90w..
Also the added extra's you get with the nas.. vpn.. proxy.. remote admin.. I've got them running on my current nas too.. but there's a whole lot more available for the NAS.
I'm just aiming for ease of use and functionality.. got other work to focus on.. lol..

I guess that came out wrong.. I didn't mean 20 at once.. all the time..
There's 20 nodes that stream from the box at random times throughout the day..
The need for 20 4k at once isn't there.. (maybe one day) but for now.. it's more for just servicing the current nodes with higher quality media..
