I wonder if that's been the issue.

 

As per Andrew's link I have uninstalled all instances of "earmuffs" from device manager, and removed them from bluetooth devices as well.

 

About to reboot and try reinstalling.

well, i did try googling too but all i got was how to reorder replacement earmuffs.
