motherboard needs a 24pin connector and an 8 pin connector.
the GFX gard needs 2x8 pin and 1x 6pin power connectors.
make sure all those are connected, and i would also remove the ram and re-seat it.
Dial111: Try connecting only what you need to get a post. What's the make etc of the ram?
And yeah kinda hard to mess up the power as each connector is specific
I'm guessing you don't have anyone who you can borrow parts from and test to eliminate each component?
Side note, did you give up on the 3080 pre-order and go for the 2080ti?

Handle9: Start with reseating all the power cables then go to ram and gpu (in that order). Try one stick of ram in every socket before moving on.
It sounds like something not plugged in or seated right.
I did a new build/rebuild last week and forgot to plug in the cpu power. All the fans were spinning but of course no post. It happens to all of us.
I've done isolation tests a few times.
I'm going to test the RAM in my server later today. Have to drive up country to pick up a new puppy today so not entirely sure when I'll next get a chance to look at this but hopefully later today :)
Edit: I decided to quickly test the RAM before we go. Works fine in my server with 1 stick being recognised as 16GB and 2 sticks recognised as 32GB.
OK it's the memory. A stick of 8 from my server brings me to POST on the display, I can at least crack on from here later and get the BIOS updated and an OS installed, and I'll probably just leave the RAM swapped around with the server until I decide what I want to do there. Just means I'll only have 16GB in the PC as it only has 2 slots and the server had 4x 8GB. But at least I know things are working. Thanks again all who replied with advice.

Not currently, I've been waiting for a high resolution/dpi headset that deals with the screen door effect. This seems to be the one.
how long were you waiting after power it on originally?
im wondering if it was just taking a while to "train" the memory. Ryzen boards tend to do when new memory is installed, and when you change to an DOCP profile and it can take a few minutes. after that its a lot quicker.
simple terms "Memory training occurs on power up, and it is the process whereby the system initializes all the memory installed in your system, does a few rapid tests, organizes it all into a pool, and then makes it available for use."
Nah it was definitely faulting. The Asus board has what they call a Q-LED set of indicator lights that it cycles through before it starts to POST. It was getting stuck on some of those. That's why it could be turned off instantly sometimes and needed to be held down for 5 seconds other times, depending on which one it got stuck on (which depended on what components I was testing at the time). The longest I left it on would have been about 45 mins while I got stuck on a work call.
