I'd like to go and look at the current models available in person, potentially this coming weekend.

Does anyone know any stores that have showroom stock of the current stable of OLED's?

The Alienware, Samsung and whatever else is worth looking at?

SpartanVXL: Pretty sure with modern OLED burn-in is lessened quite a bit, same tech in both LG’s TV’s and monitors so it doesn’t matter which you get as long as you do usual care for static elements.

I have a LG C1 so didn’t really have a choice of monitors at the time, but it still comes down to price. You could almost buy another LG OLED tv for similar cost. The only benefit is the higher refresh rate at 1440p@240Hz instead of 4k@120Hz and maybe displayport. For that level of purchase I’d want some warranty on it.

The Dell monitor is nice as well but had some issues being the first gen model out, unless theres a new one I’ve missed recently. The AOC one has reviews stating it has relatively worse colour compared to other OLED’s.

Best bet is the LG or Asus ROG OLED but they’re still pricy here. I would still consider the LG 42” OLED TV first for that price point.

I had pricespy monitoring the price of LG C2 and as expected after the release of the C3 they had some deep sales as low as $1300 (around April) for the 42", but at the time didn't have the funds. The C3 42" is currently $2400 which is beyond my budget. Also I'm a bit iffy about going to 4Kwith my 3080 gpu, I'd rather run 1440p at a higher framerate. iirc 1440p on a 27" is similar dpi to 4K on a 42".

I believe there has been firmware updates for the Dell monitor that has resolved the early gen issues.

I'll look more into AOC colours, one review I saw said still pretty good.

Dang, both JB hifi and Harvey Norman have the 42" C3 down to $2k today.... Very very tempting but just hesitant on trying to run games at 4K on my 3080...

I went to Manakau PB Tech and had a look. They had a reasonable selection, but annoyingly had some of the monitors I'd travelled to see, were connected to a lower resolution than native, and they wouldn't adjust it for me. I even asked if they would let me adjust myself, nope. That meant that other than colours and size, the 27" OLED and one of the widescreens weren't really worth looking at, but due to spec, I was more interested in the Samsung 34" and 49" both which looked amazing. Generally, I was a little disappointed at the level of interaction I had out there.

Sadly no Alienware 34" on display.

I am slightly leaning toward the Alienware. It's the worst value objectively, as it's more expensive than the 240hz 49" Samsung, but the 34" can sit inside my 2 x 27"'s and not look too OTT. I am very wary of the fans. That would drive me crazy.

I will wait and see if there is a special. Sadly PriceSpy no longer allow email alerts for price drops.

Hmm Alienware has 2 x 34" monitors on offer.

165hz FreeSync Premium 34" for $1650 and 175hz G-Sync Ultimate 34" for $2300!

Given both support VRR and HDR600 at least, struggling to work out what it is that justifies $650 difference? Surely not 10hz of refresh rate?

Check reviews, the DWF fixes a few issues the DW had. Eg firmware updates.

you don't even want to run games at 4K on a 13900K driving a 4090 let alone a 3080!

Thats a bit misleading, especially now that fortnite has a bunch of UE5 tech like nanite an lumen with hardware raytracing.

4090 is fine for 4k, and I would argue that DLSS would still do well with a 3080 if you’re not after 120fps.

Hmm so I think I have narrowed it down to the Alienware or the G8 Samsung. I wasn't prepared to spend $600 more, but Dell just offered me the Alienware for $1885.

I found this at St Lukes PB Tech too. I went to check out a high resolution monitor which had good reviews, but it was all grainy because the input was lower than native.

One has the gsync module and the other doesnt. Nvidia GPU's will support freesync so it shouldnt really be a deciding factor.

Also the DWF can be user firmware updated where the G-Sync version cannot. There are some important firmware fixes that have been released. They should in theory be on the g-sync devices but you would have to verify this once you received the unit...

With the DWF you can apply these firmware fixes yourself via the alienware software.

Also i saw someone mention fans, i have the DWF and have never heard any fan noise from my display, im a heavy gamer that pushes the display as far as it can go...

The whole gsync/freesync problem of the past is no longer there. Nvidia GPU's now work with freesync as long as the display supports it. Think it was around 2018 when all this mess got cleared up.

So in short there really isint a benefit for g-sync displays anymore.
