I don't know the problem. I see your Ubuntu startup failed. That is good indication something is bad. Without an identical device to try on any conclusion is not 100%.

  1. Bios diags might report something useful. Run them all.
  2. Windows 11 24H2 has been problematic for many users. For that reason I'd try a 23H2 with updates off initially
  3. Usual warnings about avoiding adding any drivers or software at all initially including motherboard drivers and utility software supplied with the motherboard
  4. Bios lists many revisions. I'd probably before and after some likely suspects if I had time to burn. Before/after this one for example - CPU uCode version 0x123 was updated for CPU performance optimization by disabling the CEP function for the 14th Gen CPU (stepping B0).
  5. A quick search on MSI forums has me thinking disabling on-board devices in bios might be a good elimination step. The error messages you got earlier has me thinking CPU features.

MSI forums are active. That is probably the best place to ask. May the force be with you.

I had a similar fault that was finally tracked to semi shorted reset switch.

Random reboots, worse when the day was warmer.

Reboots whilst boot, reboots in the middle of work, etc..

you aren’t the only one.

I’m also thinking possible bent pins on the socket, something not seated correctly on the mobo, power supply not man enough etc

I have made some definite progress - the hard way.  🙄

With hindsight, I made the mistake of trying to install the latest 24H2 version of Windows 11 on a PC with a 14th generation Intel CPU. They don't play nicely together.

Yesterday I installed Windows 10 without any difficulty - the "freezing" stopped immediately.

Then I upgraded to Windows 11 23H2 - still no problems.

A foolish further "upgrade" to Windows 11 24H2 resulted in an immediate return to square one, with frequent "freezing".

So now I'm looking for a 23H2 version installer - no longer distributed by Microsoft.

Failing that I'll have to re-start with Windows 10 again.

EDIT:  Microsoft have just locked me out of my new build for 2 hours, because I have had to login so many times ...   😳

I have a Windows11_23H2.iso file, but it is way too big (5,646,647,296 bytes) to fit on the free space on my web server partition.  So PM me if you need it and I will create a special web server to allow it to be downloaded.

Thank you.

I have had several kind offers to provide the Windows11_23H2.iso file.

I have since found a copy on an old PC of mine. One hurdle crossed.

Microsoft have now kindly allowed me to log into my own computer, but there are some ongoing problems with freezing (not overheating) at random intervals - once or twice an hour rather than once or twice a minute.

No more error messages.

I have another motherboard on its way to me - watch this space.   🙄

UPDATE

My troublesome test build is currently running on the 23H2 version of Windows 11.

Episodes of random boot failure and "freezing" (without CPU overheating) continue, but these are less frequent than with 24H2.

I have bought another new motherboard - a Gigabyte B760I AORUS PRO Mini-ITX (supports Intel 14 gen) - and transferred the new CPU, M.2 SSD and RAM to the new build.

Windows 11 was easily installed - no problems, no "freezing" - and the updated build is working perfectly.

This makes it increasingly likely that the original MSI MPG B760I EDGE Mini ITX motherboard is the problem.

Good to see you have a working system now :)
