Carbonite is ok, but it won't backup anything bigger than 2GB, and automatically filters out all .exe files - you have to manually include them...

The site says:

Unlimited online backup.
Carbonite gives you unlimited backup space for the irreplaceable files on your computer’s internal hard drive. Your pictures, document files, email, settings and music will be backed up automatically. You can manually back up videos, executable files, and files larger than 4GB.

Ok, so they increased the limit to 4GB, it wasn't before. Still automatically filter out the executables?

I think you can now upload files great than 4gb. Looks like it filters out executables by default but you can manually upload them. You could try a 30 day trial using the promotion code twit

Yes, you can manually upload .exe and .iso. The problem is MANUALLY setting those things. I have lots of .iso from MSDN, lots of .exe (all installers for latest versions of software I have here) and their system actually sucks. I used to use Carbonite before Mozy.

What about Backflip? They are local and offer unlimited backup for NZ$50/year.

I have 130GB backed up and counting... the biggest problem is backing up 130GB over dsl when you first start...

Also zero rated data for slingshot users.

Talkiet: I have 1.2TB with Backblaze. Still $5/month unlimited and they offered a coupon "byemozy" for a discount when you join.

would they also suck your data over from Mozy?  Imagine starting a 1.2TB backup from scratch over *cough* ADSL *cough*.  Whats that, half a year to upload?

It did take a while, but I have 2 adsl connections and one of them was a Telecom Bigtime connection with a great UL speed... I was getting about 250GB/month uploaded...

I'm not aware of any mainstream ones that do... Main reason would be that doing a restore would be problematic...

Restoring data is easy, restoring a bootable OS to potentially new hardware is hard.

I have other methods for the boot drive - I have a scheduled Trueimage backup occur weekly to a second PC here and that image gets rotated offsite vis my HDD backup schedule.

But I'm happy to have all my data stored at Backblaze (as well as 3 backup sets of HDDs here :-)

Cheers - N
