timmmay: Intel have a max temp of about 100 degrees for their i7 processors, with a recommendation to stay below 80, don't they?
Intel also sells their processors... And you are "supposed" to upgrade every 12 months, not make it last 5 years+.
From the Intel i7 data sheet, it is designed for a temperature of 68 degree C at the maximum of 130W power dissipation (idle is 12W).
The Intel heat sink runs at minimum speed at 30 degree C, maximum speed at 40 degree C. The heat sink is 0.222 degree C per W, so at 130W the temperature rise due to the heat sink performance is 29 degree C (above ambient).
